The Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) Programme for thirty-two B.Sc. (Agriculture) students from the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Assam Campus was inaugurated on 12th November 2025 at the Conference Hall of ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur. This programme forms a part of the Institutional Attachment Module and is being jointly organized by ICAR-KVK Dimapur, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, and the ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM).
During the inaugural session Dr. Phool Kumari (Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur) welcomed the students. The introductory remarks and briefing of the programme were done by Dr. Homeswar Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland centre. The RAWE programme is designed to provide agriculture students with practical exposure to real-life rural and farming conditions. It bridges classroom learning with field-level agricultural practices, enabling students to develop problem-solving skills and understand farmers’ socio-economic and technical challenges.
Following the inauguration, “Training on Package of practices of Rabi crops” and seed distribution under Front Line Demonstration (FLD) on Participatory Seed Production of Linseed” were conducted on the same day at Sunito Village, Niuland District.
The programme began with an expert lecture on the “Package of Practices of Linseed” delivered by Dr. Bendangla Imsong (CTO, Plant Breeding, KVK Dimapur) and Mr. Yashraj Kumawat (IARI Assam student). Mr. Yashraj Kumawat elaborated on the scientific methods of linseed cultivation, including details on soil requirements, seed treatment, sowing techniques, nutrient and pest management, and harvesting practices. He highlighted the importance of adopting improved agricultural practices and modern technologies to increase crop yield and profitability.
As part of the Front-Line Demonstration (FLD) under Participatory Seed Production, a total of 125 kilograms of quality linseed seed was distributed among the Sunito farmers. The initiative was led by Dr. Bendangla Imsong (Chief Technical Officer, Plant Breeding) and Dr. Moanaro (Programme Assistant) from KVK Dimapur. In total, 32 farmers from the village actively took part in the event, showing keen interest in the improved cultivation methods and seed production techniques demonstrated.
