Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India is celebrating the 8th Rahstriya Poshan Maah throughout the country to combat malnutrition and promote holistic child health and nutrition. The programme in this year focuses on five main themes such as Addressing Obesity – Reducing Sugar and Oil Consumption, Early childhood care and education (ECCE)(Poshab Bhi Padhai Bhi (PBPB)), EK Ped Maa Ke Naam, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF ) Practices, Men’s Involvement in Nutrition and Caregiving. ICAR-KVK Dimapur also conducted 8th Rashtriyan Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) at Medziphema Town on 29th September 2025. The main aim of the programme was to give awareness on the balanced diet, addressing obesity- reducing consumption of salt, sugar and oil. As a part of the programme, Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS, Home Science, KVK Dimapur had given awareness on the importance of balanced diet, harmful effect of excess consumption of salt, sugar and oil in our daily diet. She highlighted the merits and demerits of our local cuisines and the influence of ultra-processed foods in changing our food habits and ultimately leads to many non-communicable diseases such as high Blood Pressure, increase incidence of obesity and diabetes, cancer, hormonal imbalance especially PCODs in the women. She explained about the diets to be consumed during such kind of health problems. Dr. Moanaro, Technical officer, KVK Dimapur has also addressed the issues of obesity in our state. Later, the Poshan Thali competition based on the Angami traditional cuisines was also conducted and discussion on the modification of diet based on the traditional cuisines was also conducted. A total of 24 women from Medziphema town participated the event.
